The USS Forrestal Home Page
Since her decommissioning in September 1993, America's first super-aircraft carrier
has languished at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard. An inglorious ending to a sterling 38-year
history.
Now, a cadre of former crewmen has created the USS FORRESTAL MUSEUM,
INC., a non-profit organization, dedicated to the re-establishment of this fabled ship for
generations to come.
Under the Chairmanship of Frank Eurice, the Board of Directors includes Rear Admiral
John Beling, Captain Edward Grunwald, Commander John Moynihan, Ray Aldao, Skip Freeman,
Stan Phelps, Ken Killmeyer and Frank Dougherty. Their mission is to berth "First in Defense"
permanently in the port of Baltimore, next to the birthplace of our nation's "Star-Spangled
Banner", Fort McHenry.
What more fitting home for the Forrestal than within rowing distance of the Naval
Academy, whose Midshipmen graced her decks through every deployment, and with whom a
new series of training programs can now be developed?
In memoriam to all the sailors who served aboard her, with that last full measure of
devotion, we will transform the FORRESTAL into a first-class Naval Heritage Museum,
academic and vocational learning facility, and multi-dimensional activities center.
