Project Background

Here's a quick overview of what we envision...

A complete
complex

A land based educational and activities center, picnic area, shops, modern hotel with restaurant, and of course the centerpiece, the USS Forrestal, restored to all her splendor.

Anticipated
Highlights

A Welcome center featuring a multimedia presentation of
Forrestal's record of accomplishments.
Carrier Aircraft and equipment displays.
Guided and Self directed tours of  the ship.
Historical displays
Crew and Air Wing memorabilia on display.
Flight simulators
A Command and Control Simulation.
Educational and Community events.
Reunion and Group activity programs.

Project Costs

Approximately $10-12 million for relocation, restoration, and berthing pier improvements.  Financed through community contributions and revenue bonds.  Some economic development grants and financing.

Admission Price

Various tour options, Group and family plans, special discounts for military, youth, and seniors will make a visit to the Forrestal complex affordable and competitive with other Baltimore attractions.   Multi destination promotions will also be featured.

Projected Location

Convenient location within minutes of the Baltimore Inner Harbor, in the vicinity of Ft McHenry, home of the Star Spangled Banner.  Just off Interstate I95 with easy on/off ramps already in place.

Anticipated
Opening

Because the Forrestal is in such good condition we estimate that some areas of the ship could be ready for visitors as early as three months after its arrival in Baltimore.
